Cuisine of Northern India moves west.

Haveli Restaurant opens second location in Bells Corners.

A fixture in the Byward Market since 1984, Haveli Restaurant expanded west this week to a second location in the Village Mews plaza in Belles Corners.

Both restaurants are family-owned and operated. Raj Narula, a mechanical engineer turned restaurateur, is assisted by his partner and father Gurcharan, a former Indian diplomatic officer, and by his brother Ravi. The family also owns and operates Alta Travel, also located in the Market Mall.

"Following the recent market trends, Nepean seemed to us to be the most natural area in which to expand," says Raj Narula. "The high concentration of high-tech companies in neighboring Kanata has brought people from all walks of life, from every country in the world. Global travelers to us represent the type of people who are diverse with an equally diverse taste for food."

Our Chefs and their team can deliver the meals as hot as you like. Contrary to popular belief, Indian food is not and does not have to be spicy or fiercely hot to be enjoyed.

"The spices are used to enhance the taste of various meats and vegetables, and our ability to offer five different heat levels -mild to extra hot - has made our food palatable for almost everyone. The success of any dining establishment lies in its ability to please most of their patrons all of the time."

In decorating their new venue, Haveli has tried to incorporate all the items and ideas which made their first location so successful. "The glass-enclosed Tandoor, carved wood screens and the brass accessories synonymous with our location in the Market are all quite prominent in the new version also," says Narula.

"As comparison is inevitable, we will endeavor to deliver service and food maintaining all the high standards established and enjoyed by our patrons in the Haveli in the Market."

Haveli Bells Corners will offer most of the dishes made popular in the first location, along with a few new ones, he says. The new location will also feature the popular Sunday Brunch featuring Masala Dosas (potato-filled thin rice crepes served with a tangy lentil soup). A daily luncheon buffet will allow the patrons to enjoy a wide variety of dishes changing on a daily basis.

For reservations email us now or call us at Market location at 241-1700, and at the Bells Corners location 820-1700.
